First Church Burying Ground is established.
1785
It is located at today’s 16 Eliot Street. The cemetery is created, according to Richard Heath, despite the fact that the church pastor, Rev. William Gordon “did not want death too close to his church.” It contains only 24 tombs, some containing the remains of Revolutionary War veterans. It ceases to be used as a burying place in 1850.
